Frequently Asked Questions
Simply email admin@ipswichgurdwara.co.uk if you have any questions about our Gurdwara or would like to arrange a School Visit.
What is a Nagar Kirtan?
Nagar means a town or suburb, and kirtan means the signing of devotional hymns. Nagar Kirtan processions are held on major Sikh festivals and in cities across the UK. We held a Nagar Kirtan on Sunday 23rd June 2024 last to celebrate 50 years of the opening of our Sikh Temple (Gurdwara).
Is there parking available at the Gurdwara?
Yes, we have a car park to park your vehicle. Please ensure you park in a bay. If parking outside the Gurdwara grounds, please ensure you are parked safely and are not blocking any of our neighbours.
What is a Gurdwara?
‘Residence of the Guru’. A Gurdwara is the place where Sikhs come together for congregational worship. The congregation known as ‘the sangat’ come together for our weekly Sunday programme, throughout the days of the week for classes and daily prayers in the morning and evening.
What are the core values of Sikhism?
The main beliefs of Sikhism include:
Naam Japna – Remember God’s name with every breath
Kirat Karni – Work and earn an honest living, live a family way of life and practice truthfulness and honesty in all dealings
Vand Ke Chakna – Share and consume together. Selflessly serving and sharing our things with everyone, including less fortunate
Can a non-Sikh go come to your Gurdwara?
Gurdwaras allow anyone to enter, even if they are not Sikh themselves. We are open to people of every age and gender. Men and women are treated as equals, as are children.
