Sunday 23rd June 2024

Guru Nanak Gurdwara Ipswich held a Nagar Kirtan on Sunday 23rd June 2024 with the procession starting from our Gurdwara on Bramford Road to Christchurch Mansion.

50 YEARS OF GURU NANAK GURDWARA IPSWICH NAGAR KIRTAN

Nagar Kirtan translates from Punjabi as 'Neighbourhood Kirtan'.

Nagar means a town or suburb, and kirtan means the signing of devotional hymns. Nagar Kirtan processions are held on major Sikh festivals and in cities across the UK. We held our Nagar Kirtan to celebrate 50 years of the opening of our Sikh Temple (Gurdwara).

We hope all of Ipswich enjoyed the festivities. Check out the gallery below of a selection of images through the day. The Executive Committee would like to thank all of the Ipswich community who joined in with our celebrations not to mention the volunteers, sevadar and Sangat for their support throughout the three-day Akhand Path.

The main beliefs of Sikhism include:

    1. Naam Japna - Remember God's name with every breath
    2. Kirat Karni - Work and earn an honest living, live a family way of life and practice truthfulness and honesty in all dealings
    3. Vand Ke Chakna - Share and consume together.  Selflessly serving and sharing our things with everyone, including less fortunate

'Residence of the Guru'.  A Gurdwara is the place where Sikhs come together for congregational worship. The congregation known as 'the sangat' come together for our weekly Sunday programme, throughout the days of the week for classes and daily prayers in the morning and evening.

Gurdwaras allow anyone to enter, even if they are not Sikh themselves. We are open to people of every age and gender. Men and women are treated as equals, as are children.

Opening hours can be found at the top of the page. Our Gurdwara is open every day. We keep our opening hours up to date on Google as well however if you have any questions about a particular time, please feel free to email admin@ipswichgurdwara.co.uk or send us a message on Instagram or Facebook.
